Tomato Seed Acid extraction protocol
(For seed companies only)
New Version 4 with different amounts for deseeded / chopped tomatoes
To combat Tomato Brown Rugose fruit virus, there is some discussion as to whether all commercially sold tomato seed in the UK should be extracted with acid to avoid disease transmission. This is difficult for small seed companies.
If you find you are required to do this by your regulatory agency,
we are releasing an open-source protocol suitable for small-batch tomato processing , using acid weak enough to be moderately safe, while strong enough to sterilise the seed, to help support small independent seed producers.
(NOTE: If you are a home seed saver, you do not need to do this, just ferment as explained in our Seedsaving Instructions)
The protocol itself downloadable here as a PDF. Please use PPE + common sense and note you follow these instructions at your own risk.
